International Day of Yoga


Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. Yoga is a physical, mental, and/or spiritual practice attributed mostly to India. The Indian Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June as the International Yoga Day.

In an effort to participate actively in the International Yoga Day, ASP Public School,Ghansoli organized Yoga Sessions for the students on 21st June 2017 under the guidance of the yoga teacher, Ms Prajakta Khowale, who has won National Championship in Yoga for 10 times and who is also an International Yoga Artist. Her consistent record has also earned her ‘Best Yoga player’ award of Maharashtra. The students were educated on the importance of Yoga. They were explained that yoga helps in maintaining not only physical and mental health but also a healthy social life. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. By changing their lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help can enhance their well-being.

The students were taught various Asanasas per common yoga protocols in the school premises. Overwhelming performance of class 3 students by performing group of asanas and making Lotus formation, Yoga Pyramid and SuryaNamaskar won hearts of everyone.Students of grade 7 gave example of “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”by performing Deep Yoga which needs lot of concentration by keeping lightened lamp on their forehead.

The Principal, Ms Avneet Kaur, discussed and demonstrated some ways and dimensions of different types of Asanas. She counted many benefits of early rising and practicing yoga.She also pointed out how it helps students to memorize things and understand a concept along with its context. They were made aware of the relevance of the yoga in daily life.She said that yoga is the scientific way of living healthy. It strengthens the immune system. It brings a divine glow on the face and makes us wise.

The school acknowledged CBSE for inculcating Yoga as a part of the syllabus. It was a fun and healthy session and everybody enjoyed it.
